Leibnitz was fascinated by the binary structure of Yi King. Indeed, Yi-King rests entirely on two basic concepts: the yin and the yang. The yin, concept female and obscure, complementary, competitor and antagonistic of the yang, male and luminous.

Their combination by groups of three makes it possible to obtain 2*2*2=8 trigrams. These trigrams represent forces

The combination of these eight symbols two to two makes it possible to obtain 8*8=64 hexagrams. These hexagrams represents situations.

A drawing of Yi-King is a probabilistic method making it possible to obtain an oracle. This oracle is composed of a hexagram (parent hexagram) and, possibly, a second hexagram (known as product hexagram) if at least one of the six lines is unstable.

When and why question oracle?

To question Yi King, it is to turn to a four thousand years old man. An old driveller, full with good direction? Not only. It is enough to some attempts to realize that each drawing gives curiously a clear and concordant answer with the question. Better, it very often answers this facet of the question which we do not dare to express consciously. In the majority of the cases, one will observe coincidences striking between the question and the response of oracle. Do not hesitate to note each drawing:

- which drew, for which. Which was the question (if you are questioning for someone else, require him to write the written question, it is significant, when well even it does not wish to express it verbally or to make known it to you).

- after drawing, still note: did the answer change the questioner, it consolidated? Did he included/understood the answer? This answer satisfies? Did he mention a coincidence?

I endeavoured during years to compel me with this exercise in a systematic way. Today, the statistics relate to a sufficient number of cases so that I do not feel constrained any more with this effort (the theoretical average tends towards the empirical average if N is large).

Thereafter, I will indicate two methods of drawing of Yi-King. Personally, my preference goes clearly to achillée (of the stems of bamboo are also perfect for the ritual). Why achillée? Initially for its slowness. The stems make it possible to take time to install a ritual. After all, if the question has importance, to settle as much, to let itself penetrate by the situation. If a significant choice is posed in front of you, prefer to draw with pile or face? To ask a council an unknown? Or to sit you peacefully to dialogue with wise?

The practice of Yi-King is an initiation which has of another Master only the incredible coherence of the text, its resonance with the harmonies which weave reality in all the levels of its fibres. Since the scheduling of the galaxies to the atoms. Do not forget. The Sky, pure Yang is the first hexagram. The Earth, pure Yin follows it. The human one is there: level enters the levels. Wave enters the waves.

Then when to question the Master?

Not only when you face off a choice or a doubt. Consult it for the special occasionss (marriage, removal, feeling of interior change). Little by little, you will feel how much it is beneficial to have in its family such an ancestor.

Dangers of drawing

I must warn the apprentice. When well even the text does not exempt any disconcerting sentence like can be those of the smooth talkers of the tarot, any significant experiment is dangerous. The greatest danger, it is nothing to draw from this thousand-year-old wisdom. That arrives to the people who await too much Oracle. Those which want to intend it to say what they want to hear. The method that I will describe makes it possible to translate Oracle. It is not a question of parabolas but well of descriptions of the forces to work. The mistake in interpretation watches for that which will associate a force another.

For including/understanding the message of Oracle well, it is necessary to be able to be emptied. It is necessary to let its heart désemplir itself. Unfortunately, Confucius more marked the text Lao Tseu. Although the esotericism is present in their respective doctrines, Lao Tseu is closer to the way of initiation. The preference for the oral training, for comprehension is in my opinion more compatible with the spirit of Yi King than philosophy Confucianist. This one is more moralisatrice, intellectual. Too much Yang!
